About Secunderabad |
|
| |
Secunderabad is known to have a cultural heritage similar to that of Hyderabad, the other component of the twin city. The origin of Secunderabad can be traced during the time when Hyderabad was in the making. For a long part of the history, they share a cultural bond unique to the region. This pattern of growth was disturbed only when the British got hold of the area of present Secunderabad during the nineteenth century. It was then developed as a strong bastion of the British rule over that part of the country.
A military cantonment was established and British troops were stationed permanently until it got freedom from the clutches of the foreign rule. It was connected with other parts of the country through improved network of roads and railways. Secunderabad boasts of one of the largest and oldest railway station, which is a legacy of the British rule. Its importance as a prime military base of the country did not dwindle even after India gets its independence in 1947.
