Kodaikanal is a hill station situated in the Indian state of Tamilnadu, and is popularly referred to as the "Princess of Hill Stations". The high temperature and harsh tropical climate of the plains have led its establishment in the 1845, and since then it has been enjoying the reputation of being one of the most favorite tourist destinations of the country, especially for newlyweds. Its location on a high plateau near the Palni Hills, which form the eastbound branch of the Western Ghats, makes it a lot cooler than the nearby lower elevation cities including Chennai. Tourism is the largest industry and also the mainstay of the economy. At the heart of the city is Kodaikanal Lake, which is a popular hangout for locals as well as for the tourists visiting here. There are lush green meadows, mighty rocks, cascading streams, waterfalls, gardens and several other beautiful sights all over the city. Situated amidst several picturesque hills and valleys, Kodaikanal is a place that let you unwind in the most wonderful manner. Bound by high hillls on the north, it faces Cumbum valley on the south. The east is on the lower Palnis, while the west ends in a valley known as Manjampatti valley. Some of the popular tourist places in the city include Bryant Park, Coaker's Walk, Bear Shola Falls, Green Valley View, Shenbaganur Museum of National History, Pillar Rocks, Guna Caves, Silver Cascade, Dolphin's Nose and Pambar Falls.
