Jammu, known as the second capital of the Jammu & Kashmir State in India, is a cultural melting pot with people of different religious beliefs living together harmoniously. Nestled in the Shivalik Range at the foot of the Himalayan mountains, the city lies between the Kashmir Valley to the north and the Daman Koh Plains to the south. The region of Ladakh is situated to its east and the states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab border it to the south. Towards the west, it shares an international border with Pakistan. Jammu is separated from the Kashmir valley by the Pir Panjal range, while Trikuta Hills and Tawi River basin are distinguishable features of its landscape. Jammu, popularly known as the "City of Temples", is a home to numerous temples and shrines including Vaishno Devi, the most revered Hindu shrine. The division of Jammu consists of ten districts, namely Jammu, Doda, Kathua, Poonch, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Udhampur, Samba, Reasi and Ramban. Jammu, being the largest in the region and having a relatively better infrastructure, has emerged as the chief commercial center of the state. The city of Jammu has an estimated population of 2.7 million, which comprises people from different religious practices, such as Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism. Vaishno Devi Shrine, Mansar Lake, Nandini Wildlife Sanctuary, Bahu Fort, Shivkhori, Raghunath Temple, Peer Kho Cave and City Centers are some of the places that attract tourists and pilgrims from across the country.
