Darjeeling is a popular hill station located in the Indian state of West Bengal. The Darjeeling Himalayan hill region comprising a major portion of this northernmost district of West Bengali lies in the Shiwalik Hills of the Himalayan mountains and contains the beautiful town of Darjeeling. Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak of India, can be seen clearly from here, and if weather permits, one can also get to see the Mount Everest, which is located in the neighboring country of Nepal. Its temperate climate is divided into five seasons, namely spring, summer, autumn, winter and the monsoons. The rocky terrain consisting of sandstone soil and conglomerate formations hardly favors agriculture, however it has been an excellent growing condition for tea plantations, ubiquitous throughout the region. The city of Darjeeling is known worldwide for the finest blends of tea grown and processed here. Also known as the "Queen of the Hills", the region is endowed with magnificent mountains, beautiful landscapes and several places of tourist attractions. The highest point in the region known as the Tiger Hills offers the beautiful sight of the rising sun. A narrow-gauge railway line connects the hilly region with the plains, and it is where we find the world's unique train driven by steam engine and popularly known as the toy train. This is included among the World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is a popular attraction for domestic as well as international tourists.
